INTERGENERATIONAL CONFLICTS IN THE CONTEXT OF SCHOOL DIGITALIZATION

The relevance of the study is due to the rapid digitalization of education, which not only expands the instrumental capabilities of the educational and upbringing process but also fundamentally transforms intergenerational relationships. The aim of the article is to examine the reasons for the transformation of intergenerational relationships, their characteristic features, and the impact on the emergence of intergenerational conflicts in the context of the digitalization of modern schools.
Methods. The authors use an analysis of scientific literature on the issues of intergenerational relations and conflicts, taking into account their manifestation in the context of school digitalization, as well as an empirical sociological study conducted among three key groups of participants in the educational and upbringing process: teachers, parents, and schoolchildren, to identify the perception of digital technologies and the causes of conflicts related to their use.
Results. The data from the sociological survey show that the digitalization of the educational environment is changing the traditional distribution of roles in the transmission of knowledge between adults and children. Knowledge is no longer concentrated among older generations but is acquired independently by each generation, with the younger generation occasionally taking on the role of mentors, which undermines the traditional role positions of teachers and parents in the process of knowledge transfer. The research data also allow us to note a divergence in the intergenerational assessments of the use of digital technologies, which has the potential to be conflict‑prone. The intergenerational conflict in the digital educational environment is initiated not so much by the fact of using/not using technologies, but by the difference in the logic of their application. For adults, the logic of using digital technologies is largely protective and restrictive, aimed at minimizing risks, whereas for the younger generation, it is the logic of instrumental everyday life. The intensity of intergenerational disagreements is concentrated within the family.
Discussion. Identifying such discrepancies is of fundamental importance for preventing the escalation of conflicts and fostering a meaningful dialogue between generations in the context of school digitalization.
