Volunteering as a social mechanism for reducing the risk of fires in the region

The purpose of the article is to characterize the features of volunteering as a social mechanism for reducing the risk of fires in the region and to substantiate the main recommendations for improving volunteering in the field of fire fighting in the regions of Russia.
Research methodology is based on sociological concepts of risk and theoretical provisions used in the sociological literature to analyze volunteering activity.
As a result, the authors analyzed the theoretical and methodological concepts of risk research and the activities of volunteers, the main characteristics of the concepts under consideration are determined. The performed theoretical analysis made it possible to identify the main characteristics of volunteering as a social mechanism for reducing the risk of fires in the region.
The systematization of statistical data made it possible to carry out a structural analysis of the quantitative composition of the voluntary fire brigade at different organizational levels. The authors identified the main differences in the composition of the voluntary fire brigade of the Russian Federation and the developed countries of the world.
The activity of the Russian voluntary fire brigade in the Central Federal District is considered. Recommendations for improving volunteerism as a social mechanism for reducing the risk of fires in the region, increasing the efficiency of their activities are substantiated.
