Book Review: D. G. Evstafiev's (2024) Russian-American Relations in the Post-Bipolar World: from American-Centric Globalization to a Neo-Global World

Abstract

The review presents an analysis of D. G. Evstafiev's work "The Strategy of the Big Game". Russia and the United States in the New World", his key conclusions about the international situation, and the implementation of the strategies of the main foreign policy actors. According to Russian researcher D. G. Evstafiev, Russia is now going beyond the geopolitical "flags" and taking its place in the group of influential international actors and influencing the formation of a new international order.

The book presents a rethinking of the role and contribution of modern Russia in the international relations system, and the country's acquisition of the status of a significant player in the context of global transformations. The concept of the post-bipolar world as a transitive process of movement from the American-centered globalization to the neo-global world is presented and substantiated. The evolution of Russian-American relations is structured in the context of historical, cultural and economic analysis. D.G. Evstafiev presents predictive characteristics, forming a key conclusion that the interaction between Russia and the United States (as well as the United States and China; the United States and the EU) for a new global world actually means a struggle to draw the boundaries of the dominance of civilizational (national) values and narratives. As well as building appropriate global governance systems by Russia and the United States.

The conclusion is drawn about the formation of a certain new normality characteristic of the modern stage of international relations, their transition to the format of permanent conflict-cooperation, constant search for consensus and the conclusion of deals between the main foreign policy actors.
