The aim of the article is to provide a sociological definition of fairness in the context of state policy to strengthen traditional Russian morals based on the results of using the author's empirical model of analyzing the students’ perception regarding social values (Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 809 dated 11/09/2022).
Methods. The theoretical and methodological basis of the research is an interdisciplinary synthesis of philosophical concepts of fairness and sociological theories of values, which made it possible to identify four dimensions of fairness value, such as ideal, desired, expected and real. Empirical testing was carried out on a representative sample of RANEPA students (N = 4338) as part of the online survey "Traditional and strategic students ‘values" (May-June 2023) by using a linear distribution analysis and correlation analysis (Spearman coefficient) of the sociological data.
Results. The present study confirms integrity of fairness as a social value. The author revealed a high internal consistency of all its components (from the meritocratic ideal to real behavior). Furthermore, the systemic mutual relationship between fairness and responsibility, humanity, labor and cognitive activity is established. It became the basis for the operational definition of the concept under study, which now allows considering fairness not as an isolated attitude, but as the core of a value structure integrating personal and social orientations.
Discussion. The author proposes a sociological definition of justice as a socially significant universal, manifested in a consistent system of attitudes and practices identified by an empirical model of social values analysis. The results are of direct practical relevance. It lies in providing an empirical model for monitoring the traditional value interiorization among young people and developing value education focused not on declarative assimilation of norms, but on the formation of an internally consistent value position that can become the basis for building a just society by means of personal responsibility and ethic interaction.
