Modern Russian nation: social construct or an an- thropological reality

For the Russian Federation at the present stage the issue of further strengthening the Russian nation has been updated. This process of searching for optimal ways involves politicians, representatives of the expert and scien- tific community. The purpose of the arti- cle is to conduct a systematic analysis of the modern Russian nation as an ethno- political phenomenon. At the same time, this analysis is presented by the author from the standpoint of two methodologi- cal approaches: constructivism and pri- mordialism. Research methods: struc- tural-functional method, system method, content analysis method. Within the framework of the study the authors have come to the following conclusion. The re- sults of the study - authors proved that the high interethnic conflict potential in modern Russia is due to the fact that the Russian society has not formed into a sin- gle ethnonation. Russian society is a na- tion only in the civil law aspect. In the eth- nopolitical perspective, the Russian na- tion is a multi-ethnic conglomerate, moreover, with the presence of nega- tively complementary ethnic groups with a potentially high conflict potential.
