Prospects for the development of parliamentary monarchies in the political systems of modern Europe

The purpose of the work is to consider the genesis and current state of European parliamentary monarchies in the context of the development of politi- cal systems of liberal democracy. The article substantiates that the parliamen- tary monarchy remains one of the typical forms of government in the conditions of modern political systems. The study is based on the use of historical, compara- tive and dialectical methods. The meth- odology of the work is formed by the need to clarify the institutional parame- ters of modern European parliamentar- ism. The author argues that the formation and transformation of parliamentarism with elements of monarchical rule were the result of the development of political and historical process characteristic of various stages of modernization of a number of states of the European conti- nent. It is concluded that despite the chal- lenges of the post-industrial era, the effec- tive combination of the institution of mo- narchical rule with political and economic freedoms, by joining the system of sepa- ration of powers, adopting the principles of the rule of law, the parliamentary monarchy retains the importance of an integral element of democratic transit for various modern societies.
