The purpose of the article is to study the current situation in the field of European security, as well as to determine the directions of its ensuring in the modern conditions of political confrontation. The goal determines the solution of the following tasks: to consider the prerequisites for ensuring security, to present the directions for achieving it, to study the realities of modern European security policy.
Methods. Based on the analysis of official documents, expert opinions and scientific literature, an assessment of the European security system in the field of solving complex problems of international relations is presented. For the purposes of the study, key program documents directly related to the issue under consideration were selected (European Security Strategy – a secure Europe in a better world; Draft Treaty on European Security; Russian initiative on a Treaty on European Security; North Atlantic Treaty); analytical materials (European security in a changing geo-political context: From the European Research Area to the European Defence Research and Innovation Area and from Cohesion to European territorial security; LEAK: What the EU’s future military strategy could look like; To Watch in 2025: European Defense and Security); the work also used scientific articles published in 2022 – 2024, revealing the most pressing problems of European security in the context of modern geopolitical instability.
Autors to structure the directions that allow the EU countries to ensure European security in the paradigm of Eurasian cooperation.
The imperfection of the collective mechanism for ensuring European security in modern conditions is revealed.
Results. The presence of an inextricable link between security issues on the European continent and the instruments for ensuring it is determined. It is concluded that militarization and aggressive foreign policy do not guarantee the achievement of security for European countries, as evidenced by the current military-political situation. On the contrary, constructive cooperation and recognition of the right of each state to resolve pressing problems that have accumulated on the European continent, the rejection of hegemony and expansion in any of its manifestations are the basis for ensuring global security not only in Europe, but throughout Eurasia. As a result, the presented study allows us to form a basis for achieving a security situation on the Eurasian continent as a whole.
